CLARKE SETS TWU SHOT PUT RECORD, SITS 5TH IN HEPTATHLON

WINDSOR, Ont. – Trinity Western second-year Dajean Clarke set the Spartans shot put record with a throw of 13.56m to highlight a strong opening day in the heptathlon at the U SPORTS Track & Field Championships Thursday at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse. Clarke sits fifth overall through the first four events of the competition. 
 
Coming off winning a gold medal at the Canada West Championships, Clarke collected, 2,935 points on Day 1 of the national championships. Along with his best-ever shot put performance, he also cleared a personal best 1.90m in high jump. Day 2 of the competition is Friday, with the 60m hurdles, pole vault and the 1000m still to come. 
 
In women's pole vault, Ana Maria Fonseca Moreno posted a season's best 3.65m, bettering her silver medal-winning 3.56m result at the Canada West Championships two weeks ago. Fonseca finished 13th overall after 
 
Competing at the U SPORTS Championships for the first time, Erica Udoh finished 11th overall in weight throw with a mark of 15.02m.
 
Rui Ramsay was unable to compete in the 60m due to an injury sustained at the Canada West Championships.

The Spartans will continue to compete in the U SPORTS Championships Friday and Saturday in Windsor, Ont.
