SIMCHUK SCORES TWICE AS SPARTANS KNOFF OFF SIMON FRASER

BURNABY, B.C. – Trinity Western earned a 4-3 win over Simon Fraser University in preseason action Thursday at the Burnaby Winter Club.

The Spartans Mykhailo Simchuk scored twice, while Connor Farren and Jonathan Krahn added singles to help lift TWU to the victory.

TWU scored three power play goals, staking themselves to a 4-1 lead through 40 minutes before holding off the Red Leafs down the stretch.

QUOTABLE
Ben Walter, TWU Head Coach
"I'm really happy with the whole group tonight. We had a game plan coming in and our players executed really well. It was a strong step in the right direction for our team. Our special teams were really good tonight. Our penalty kill stood tall and had some big blocked shots and killed some penalties late in the game when we were up by one goal. Then on the flip side, our power play scored three goals, which was the difference in the game.

"Our goaltending was great. Raph played really well tonight, but then he had an equipment malfunction, so Cole Savage came in and finished the last 10 minutes of the game when things were really tight. Simchuk had a great game, scoring a couple of goals. Ricards Landmanis won our team player of the game helmet. He blocked a ton of shots and played really hard and was really strong for us on the back end. We're looking forward to one more exhibition game Saturday and then getting into the regular season next week.
