ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans used a balanced scoring attack to hold on for a 90-88 win over the Fraser Valley Cascades Friday night at the UFV Gym in Abbotsford, B.C. The win improves the Spartans to 8-11, while the loss drops the Cascades to 11-7.

Tyus DeVries (Chilliwack, B.C.) with 21 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, Third-year guard
Pearse Long (Lawrence, KA) with 18 points, three rebounds, and three assists, and fourth-year guard
Jack Vandenberg (Vancouver, B.C.) with 15 points, five assists, and four rebounds led the Spartans.
Bennett O'Connor with 24 points, five assists, and five rebounds, and Matthias Klim with 20 points and 11 rebounds led the Cascades.

AS IT HAPPENED
The Spartans opened strong and led 28-20 after the opening quarter, but the evened the score at the half at 42-42. TWU went into the final quarter with a 63-58 lead. The Spartans extended the lead to 11-points, 85-74, with three minutes remaining. Then Cascades caught fire in the final three minutes, outscoring the Spartans 14-5 to make the final a two-point TWU win. UFV got to within one point, 89-88 with 10 seconds remaining, but the Spartans were able to hold on for the win.

- The Spartans finished the night shooting an impressive 46.5 percent (33-71) from the field, 51.6 percent (16-31) from the three-point line, and 66.7 percent (8-12) from the foul line, while the Cascades shot 43.8 percent (32-73), 32 percent (8-25), and 80 percent (16-20) respectively.
- UFV had a 45-39 edge in rebounds, and assists 28-24
- The Spartans outscored the Cascades 16-9 in points off of turnovers
- TWU has clinched at least fifth place and a playoff spot with last weekend's sweep.
- The Spartans are currently 39-40 (21-26 in Canada West) overall against the UFV Cascades.
- Earlier this year, the Spartans split with the Cascades in Langley, B.C. winning 83-81 and losing 86-79.
- Last week, the Spartans got a weekend sweep with wins over TRU 80-70, and UNBC 102-65.
