SPARTANS FIGHT UNTIL THE END AGAINST MACEWAN

LANGLEY, BC.  – The Spartans battled MacEwan on Saturday afternoon but couldn't take the win.

MacEwan came in hot with three goals in the first period. The Spartans spent the period trying to catch up with the Griffins. The second period was goalless with the Griffins holding a 3-0 lead.

Third-year Mikhailo Simchuk (Kyiv, Ukraine) got the Spartans on the board early in the third period. MacEawn came back with another goal soon later making it 4-1. On a powerplay, second-year Danylo Korzhyletskyi (Kyiv, Ukraine) scored. Just a few minutes later, first-year Carter Schmidt (Kelowna, BC) scores to make it 1 goal game. The Griffins responded by scoring two more goals to win the game 6-3.

QUOTABLE
Ben Walter, TWU Head Coach
"It was not the start we wanted. They came out hard so credit to them. We got behind and I thought we got better as the game went on. I liked our first half of the third period. We came out hard but it just not enough. We need to put a more complete effort in on both ends and have everyone on board with it for us to have success. That hasn't happened yet this year so we keep moving forward. That is the plan going into Manitoba next weekend. They're a big, heavy team. It'll be a good test for us. It's a different style than some of the teams we've played already. We need some guys to just step up a little bit and give us a little bit more."
