TORONTO, Ontario – Trinity Western first-year goalie Leon Sommer (Linz, Aust.) is the U SPORTS Player of the Week in men’s hockey, after leading the Spartans to consecutive wins over Top 10 teams for the first time in program history.
On Tuesday, he stopped an incredible 52 shots, as he led Trinity Western to a 2-1 (SO) win over then-No. 9-ranked Saskatchewan. Then on Friday, he followed up the historic performance by making 41 saves in a 4-3 win over then-No. 8 Alberta. Giving the Spartans their first back-to-back wins over U SPORTS Top 10 teams in program history.
Last weekend closed out the season for Trinity Western, who did not qualify for the Canada West playoffs.
