LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western second-year libero Isaac Navarro (Surrey, B.C.) is the Spartan Male Athlete of the Week after recording 35 digs and seven assists to help the Spartans sweep the Manitoba Bisons in their Canada West season-opening weekend at the Langley Events Centre.

The general studies student recorded a career-best 21 digs and four assists across five sets in Friday’s 3-2 comeback victory. His match-high dig total ranks fifth in TWU men’s volleyball history in Canada West regular-season play. The Spartans saved two match points in the fourth set before winning 25-21, 20-25, 23-25, 28-26, 15-11.

On Saturday, Navarro again led all players with 14 digs and added three assists across four sets in a 3-1 win (25-20, 25-16, 17-25, 25-16). Navarro averaged 3.89 digs per set over the nine-set weekend as the defending Canada West and U SPORTS champions opened conference play at 2-0.

The Spartans have a bye next weekend before visiting the Alberta Golden Bears on Friday, November 6, and Saturday, November 7, at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton. Both matches can be seen live on Canada West TV.
