SPARTANS YOUNGSTERS DROP FOUR-SET MATCH TO MOUNT ROYAL IN DINO CUP

CALGARY – Playing in its first match of the Dino Cup, a young version of the Trinity Western men's volleyball team lost 3-1 (25-21, 28-30, 25-23, 25-19) to Mount Royal Friday at the University of Calgary.

The loss is the Spartans second in a row against MRU and drops their preseason record, which has featured four consecutive matches against the Cougars, to 2-2.

"It was good that we got to play all of our young guys," said Spartans coach Ben Josephson. "We had three of our four freshmen on the floor and a couple second years. We saw some really good things from those young guys, but we also saw that they're still young guys. It shows that we have a lot more work to do to make sure the skills and system knowledge that is needed to play at this level becomes more automatic.

"But, overall, we still saw some good stuff and got some good tape and some good experience for those guys."

The Spartans will play again this evening against Calgary at 6:30 p.m. (PT). TWU will then take on Saskatchewan on Saturday at 3 p.m. PT in the Spartans last match of the Dino Cup.
