SPARTANS DROP SECOND TO WARRIORS

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Trinity Western women's basketball team finished their pre-season with an 86-43 loss to the Lewis and Clark Warrior Saturday afternoon in Lewiston, Idaho.

"Today's first half was definitely better than yesterday's game and we met many of our defensive goals, so in that sense, much better effort and execution," commented TWU head coach Cheryl Jean-Paul. "The game stopped a lot in the second half and it was tough to find momentum to maintain the competitiveness of the first half but we learned a lot about having to play through adversity and fight for ourselves and each other. Those lessons will be valuable for our group heading into league play."

Third year guard Jessie Brown (Langley, B.C.) and third year forward Tessa Ratzlaff (Abbotsford, B.C.) led the Spartans with 10 points each, with Ratzlaff adding five rebounds. The Warriors, who had six players in double digit scoring, were led by Brittany Tackett with 16 points and six rebounds and Caelyn Orlandi and Jansen Edminston with 12 points each.

Trinity Western finished the night shooting 33.3 percent (17-51) from the field, 18.8 percent (3-16) from three point line, and 60 percent (6-10) from the foul line, while Lewis and Clark finished at 39.3 percent (24-61), zero percent (0-8) and 88.4 percent (38-43) respectively.

The Spartans finish their preseason 1-5.

TWU opens Canada West play Friday-Saturday, November 4-5 when they travel to Kelowna, B.C. to play the UBC Okanagan Heat. The Spartans home opener is on November 12 against the Fraser Valley Cascades.

Game Notes: the Spartans had a 38-37 edge in rebounds…TWU had 31 turnovers to LCS 13…
