SPARTANS GET SIX POINTS ON WEEKEND WITH WIN OVER HEAT

KELOWNA, British Columbia – Trinity Western opened the scoring a mere 23 seconds into the match and never looked back as the Spartans defeated the UBC Okanagan Heat 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Nonis Sports Field in Kelowna, B.C.

The win improves the Spartans to 6-4-0 and drops the Heat to 6-4-2. After starting the season 1-3, TWU has now gone 5-1 over the past six matches. UBC-O started the season 6-1-1, but have only managed one point over their past four matches going 0-3-1.

TWU fifth year forward Cody Fransen (Lynden, WA) once again led the Spartans attack, following up yesterday's three goals with a game winning goal and an assist in this afternoons win.

TWU third year keeper Sebastian Colyn (Langley, B.C.) made two saves to earn the victory, while UBC-O's Nicholas Reitsma made three saves in the loss.

Spartans first year midfielder Joey Seo (Victoria, B.C.) opened the scoring on the Spartans first possession when he converted a header from Fransen past a shocked Reitsma only 23 seconds after the opening whistle.

Fransen got the eventual game winner in the 39th minute when he fired a pass from fourth year Caleb Johnson (Strathmore, Alta.) into the back of the Heat net.

TWU would carry the 2-0 lead late into the match before UBC Okanagan forward Mark Lawrance made it a one goal match with a scramble goal in the 83rd minute. TWU would maintain control for much of the remainder of the match as they secured the one goal victory.

QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Mike Shearon
"It has been awhile since we have come up here and had a six point weekend. It is just a credit to how much the guys looked at the little things and took care of what was in their control. The boys worked massively hard in terms of trying to keep a clean sheet today, unfortunately we let one in in the end."
"We move on from here. There are no easy games and we will look to replicate this weekend next week."
