EDMONTON – Trinity Western's men's volleyball team returned to action on Thursday, defeating Calgary 3-1 in their first preseason match before the 2021-22 season. This preseason match is a part of TWU's three-game series in the FOG Classic, hosted by the University of Alberta.
Â
The Spartans were consistently strong throughout the match as outside-hitters
Brodie Hofer (Langley, B.C.) and
Jesse Elser (Calgary) amassed 18 and 14 kills respectively.
Derek Epp (Saskatoon, Sask.) was stellar from the setter position as he added nine digs on top of the 41 assists he achieved.

QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Ben Josephson
"It was really great to compete on Canadian soil against other teams. There were great moments and low moments, like any preseason match.
Â
"I loved how we finished today. Whenever you can build through a match and finish on their terms you want, that's the goal. If we start every match at a better rate, finishing every game stronger, that's a great roadmap for the season."

UP NEXT
The Spartans are back on Saturday (Oct. 1
st) to play Mount Royal.
