SPARTANS BEAT UBC IN THREE IN BLUE TEAM CUP OPENER

LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western rolled to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-21) win over visiting UBC in the Spartans opening match of the Blue Team Cup Thursday at the Langley Events Centre.

The win sees the Spartans early season record improve to 3-1.

QUOTABLE
Adam Schriemer – Interim Co-Head Coach
"I'm pretty proud of our guys' performance and our effort tonight. Before the match, we talked about how this is our first chance to protect home court, as it was our first game playing at the LEC this year. I thought our guys did just that. The first set was kind of sloppy on both sides – a lot of unforced errors and missed serves, but as the match went on, I think we got a lot better. That's something to be proud of.

"I think a highlight in the first set was a blocking section from Cory Schoenherr (Waterloo, Ont.) where he had two positive touches and then he finished off the rally with a stuff. It's hard to get three positive touches in a full set sometimes and he did that in one rally and it resulted in a point, which was cool to see. I thought that was Anselm Rein's (Erfurt, Germany) best performance as a Spartan so far. He was able to do that because of our passing lineup. I thought UBC served tough at times and the play of Jesse Elser (Calgary, Isaiah Olfert (Winnipeg), Mathias Elser (Calgary) and Brodie Hofer (Langley) in serve receive allowed Anselm to do some really cool things.

"I think we got better tonight and we're looking forward to the rest of the Blue Team Cup, as we will have our hands full with our next two games."
