VANCOUVER – Playing the No. 2 ranked team in the country for the second time in three days, Trinity Western came away with a single point, after losing 4-3 in overtime Saturday afternoon at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.
TWU's
McKenzie Mayo (Saskatoon) tied the game with 4:23 to play in the third period, but UBC capitalized on a power play in overtime, with Hannah Koroll scoring the game-winner midway through the extra session.
Kate Klassen (Chilliwack, B.C.) and
Neisha Germann (Llodyminster, Alta.) also scored for the Spartans, who battled back from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits. Spartans goalie
Mabel Maltais (Edmonton) made 28 saves for a Spartans team that was forced to deal with nine UBC power plays to just three for TWU. Both teams scored twice with the player-advantage.
UBC's Sophia Gaskell, Chanreet Bassi and Mia Bierd scored in regulation, with goalie Kate Stuart making nine saves on 12 shots.
After picking up their first-ever win over UBC on Thursday, the Spartans, like the Thunderbirds, take three of four points from the weekend series. TWU is now 6-5-1 on the season, while UBC is 9-1-2.

Our coaching staff is very proud of the determination and grit the team demonstrated throughout this series against UBC. Gaining three points in this series was a big statement about the development of our program."
