GILL SCORES 30 IN LATE WIN OVER VICTORIA

VICTORIA – Trinity Western pulled off a late comeback to take down Victoria 73-70 at the CARSA Performance Centre on Friday.

The Spartans (5-2) were led by a career-high performance from Jayden Gill (Abbotsford, B.C.), who scored a game-high of 30 points. Nicole Fransson (Edmonton) wasn't far behind, scoring 24 points while grabbing 14 rebounds.

The lead only changed twice in Friday's tilt as the Spartans were able to sneak out a late comeback after trailing by a significant margin at the half.

AS IT HAPPENED
TWU came out strong in the first quarter, outscoring the Vikes 17-7 in the first quarte

The Vikes came into the second quarter with a different look, outscoring TWU 34-12 in the second quarter to take a commanding 41-29 lead at the half.

The Spartans were able to narrowly outscore the Vikes 17-14 in the third quarter before the Spartans exploded for a 27-15 fourth quarter, earning a 73-70 win.

QUOTABLE
Trinity Western Head Coach Cheryl Jean-Paul:
" After a great start we really lost our way defensively in the second quarter. We let them attack us and find their way into breakdown situations that we just weren't pushing back against. But at half I asked the team to fight and that's exactly what they did. To be down by 19 points and fight on both ends of the floor - I thought our performance leaders, especially Jayden and Nicole, took their game to the next level. But we need to make sure our collective group is ready to fight from start to finish in tomorrow's game."

UP NEXT
The Spartans rematch the Vikes at 5:00 p.m. at the CARSA Performance Centre on Saturday.
