REGINA – Trinity Western fell 4-2 to Regina on Saturday at the Lumsden Sport Complex.
The Spartans (1-14-1) were the first team to score in Saturday's loss, taking a 1-0 lead 3:41 into the first period before the Cougars (3-9-1) claimed a 2-1 lead. TWU's goals were scored by
Jarrett Penner (Saskatoon) and
Mitchell Joss (Winnipeg).
Isaac LaBelle (Saskatoon) earned his first start in over a month, stopping 40 of 44 shots faced on the night. LaBelle now sees his goaltending record fall to 0-5.
AS IT HAPPENED
Penner opened the night's scoring only 3:41 into the game, earning his third of the season off of a
Jonathan Krahn (Chilliwack, B.C.) assist. The Cougars tied the game up soon after, scoring at the 5:06 mark to even up the game.
Both teams traded blows in reverse order in the second period. With Regina finding their goal first (12:44), Joss reeled in a feed from
Mikol Sartor (Winnipeg) and
Landon Fuller (Williams Lake, B.C.) to tie the game again.
The Spartans gave up two unanswered goals in the third period, falling 4-2 to the Cougars.
QUOTABLE
Ben Walter – TWU Head Coach
"I was really happy with our effort. We pushed hard at times, and had a chance to get the win, but we couldn't execute at key times and that was the difference. Isaac [LaBelle] played well and kept us in the game, and a really good performance from [Mitchell] Joss' line. I was really happy with their performance."
