LANGLEY, B.C. – Brooklyn Anderson (Shellbrook, Sask.) is this week's Spartan Female Athlete of the Week after a four-point weekend against UBC.
Anderson capped off what was not only a historical season for the Spartans, but an outstanding season for the first-year forward.
Anderson started her weekend by assisting on TWU's lone goal in Friday night's tilt against the Thunderbirds, getting the puck to
Olivia Leier (Regina) who roofed one into the net.
After a 4-1 loss, the Spartans came out of the gates with a win in mind on Saturday. Soon after
Brooke Legault (St. Francois Xavier, Man.) potted the game-tying goal midway through the first period, Anderson trailed on a 3-on-2 rush, corralling a beautiful pass from
Olivia Leier before rifling it past UBC's goaltender to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead heading into the second period.
With the Spartans conceding the lead to the Thunderbirds, Anderson assisted on a Chelsea DeBusschere (Lloydminster, Alta.) power play goal as TWU sought to fight their way back into Saturday's tilt. With the UBC lead dwindling, Anderson scored TWU's final goal of the game, stickhandling past the opposing goaltender to secure her third point of the match.
Anderson and the Spartans will be back for another season of Canada West hockey next fall.
