LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western First-year forward
Charis Wardrope's (Maple Ridge, B.C.) memorable debut has cemented her spot as the Spartan Female Athlete of the Week.
Wardrope had a stunning debut for the Spartans, scoring two goals to lift TWU to a 3-0 victory over Victoria on Friday night. Wardrope did all of her work in only 45 minutes of play, coming on to the pitch as a substitute at the half.
Wardrope was the spark TWU needed to edge past the Vikes, making an immediate impact with a goal in the 48
th minute to break the 0-0 tie. The first-year forward's second goal of the match came in the 80
th minute when
Sophie Crowther (New Westminster, B.C.) headed the ball on to Wardrope who would put home her second of the night.
Wardrope started in Saturday's 2-0 loss to UBC, putting two shots on target while serving as a scoring threat in her 77 minutes of field time.
With the Spartans heading into a bye week, TWU will be back at home on Sept. 9
th against Lethbridge (7 p.m.) with Mount Royal being their opponent the following night (5 p.m.).
