SPARTANS SURGE LATE TO BEAT MACEWAN 3-0

LANGLEY, B.C. – Three late markers guided Trinity Western to a 3-0 victory over MacEwan at the Chase Office Field on Friday night.

TWU's (5-3-3) late surge started with Thomas Powell (Coquitlam, B.C.) in the 75th minute. Powell would lead the way for the Spartans with a goal and an assist in the match as GMU (2-3-3) keeper Josh Stayko would stopped four significant chances to keep the Griffins in the match.

The remainder of TWU's goals would come from Luca Alberti (Burnaby, B.C.), who earned his first of the season, and Noah Kroeker (Calgary).

Jackson Thomson (Langley, B.C.) and Marcus Tjernagel (Maple Ridge, B.C.) also earned assists in the match as Alexander Cordeiro (Burnaby, B.C.) shut out the Griffins, only having to make one save in the match.

AS IT HAPPENED
The first half bore no goals for either side with the Spartans outshooting the Griffins 5-3.

It took 75 minutes of play for Powell to break through, putting TWU up 1-0 in the match. Alberti would follow up in the 80th minute before Noah Kroeker would put Friday night's match to bed – slotting home TWU's third and final goal in the 89th minute.

QUOTABLE
Mike Shearon – TWU Head Coach
"Massive win tonight. It's good to be home, and it's good to get three points. We were back to our bread-and-butter tonight. It has been a little bit difficult in the past couple of weeks trying to get everybody integrated – so I thought that tonight was a really good step in the right direction."
