SPARTANS DROP TOUGH ROAD GAME TO HUSKIES

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan – Kara Yackel (St. Paul, Man.) scored the lone goal for Trinity Western as the Spartans fell 2-1 to the Saskatchewan Huskies in Canada West women's hockey action Friday night at the Merlis Belsher Place in Saskatoon. The loss drops the Spartans' record to 9-8-2, while the Huskies improve to 11-5-3.
 
The Huskies Kara Kondrat opened the scoring for the home team at 5:04 of the opening frame.
 
TWU's Yackel tied the game with a power play goal from Amy Potomak (Calgary) and McKenzie Mayo (Saskatoon) just before the end of the opening period at 19:36. TWU had an 11-6 edge in shots in the opening period.
 
After a scoreless second period, where TWU out Saskatchewan 9-7, the Huskies' Kenzie Lausberg would score the game-winner at 8:01 of the final period. The Spartans would again have the edge in shots at 10-7.
 
TWU's Mabel Maltais (Edmonton) made 18 saves in the loss, while Saskatchewan's Camryn Drever made 29 saves to earn the win.

"This was a very tight game. We outshot Saskatchewan and I believe the outcome could have gone either way. The winning goal came off a lost faceoff after an icing call. I liked our effort and work ethic tonight. If we play consistently in this manner, I believe we will have a strong finish to our season."
