SPARTANS DROP ROAD GAME WITH HUSKIES

SASKATOON – The Saskatchewan Huskies welcomed the Trinity Western Spartans to Merlis Belsher Place on Friday night and built upon their undefeated start to the season with a 5-0 win.

Saskatchewan got two goals from Vince Loschiavo and singles each from Cade Hayes, Dawson Holt and Josh Pillar.

TWU goalie Leon Sommer (Linz, Austria) stopped 27 of the 32 shots he faced, while Roddy Ross made 23 saves for the Huskies.

Saskatchewan improves to 7-0, while the Spartans drop to 0-7.

AS IT HAPPENED
The Huskies started with a quick goal off the jump from forward Vince Loschiavo to give the Dogs the lead five minutes into the game. Cade Hayes added to the Huskie lead midway through the period.

Loschiavo found the net again taking a pass from Josh Pillar to give the Huskies the 3-0 lead over the Spartans heading into the second period.

The second period was a defensive battle with neither team making much headway. With less than four minutes remaining in the second period, Ty Prefontaine found Dawson Holt, whose shot sailed past Sommer to extend the Huskies lead 4-0.

Pillar had the lone goal of the third period, with help from Chantz Petruic, to push the Huskies lead to 5-0. The Spartans had their best opportunity of the night with just over a minute left in the third, when the Spartans slid one past Ross. The goal was called off due to a Spartan defender in the crease.

QUOTABLE
Ben Walter – Head Coach
"Overall I am happy with our overall effort tonight. We knew coming in that this was a team that would make us pay for mistakes and they did that with all five of their goals coming that way. Luckily, this is something we can work on and if we can continue to bring energy and effort like we did tonight, things are going to start to turn in our direction.

"I thought that our penalty kill was great again tonight for us. I also was very happy with Reid Perepeluk's (Yorkton, Sask.) game, Reid gave us a lot of energy and I was very happy for him in what was his first game in over a year."

NOTABLE
•    Perepeluk made his TWU debut after previously spending time in the AHL, ECHL and SPHL.
•    Last week TWU lost 5-2, and 8-2 to the UBC Thunderbirds in a home-and-home series.
•    Last week the undefeated Huskies defeated the Regina Cougars 5-2, and 3-2 in a home-and-home series in Saskatchewan.
•    TWU is now 0-7 lifetime against the Huskies.
