SPARTANS GET PAST HUSKIES

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Fifth-year forward Katherine Chadwick (Kanata, Ont.) scored twice and the Trinity Western Spartans scored three goals in the second period to defeat the visiting Saskatchewan Huskies 4-1 Friday night at the George Preston Arena in Langley, B.C. The win moves the Spartans to 4-2-1, while the loss drops the Huskies to 5-2.

Third-year goalie Kate Fawcett (Tottenham, Ont.) was outstanding making 39 stops to earn the win for the Spartans, while Colby Wilson and Camryn Drevers combined for 21 saves in the Huskies' loss.

In addition to Chadwick, the Spartans got goals from third-year forward Chloe Reid (Leduc, Alta.) and second-year blue-liner Ella Boon (Vanderhoof, B.C.). Saskatchewan's Kelsay Hall scored the lone goal for the Huskies on the power play.

AS IT HAPPENED
The Spartans' Chadwick opened the scoring at 10:29 of the first period.

TWU blew open the game in the second period with three unanswered goals. Reid got the Spartans off to a quick start scoring at 1:33. Chadwick got her second just over two and a half minutes later, scoring at 4:07. Boon gave TWU a 4-0 lead heading into the final period scoring at 18:41.

QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Peter Hay
" We had a great week of preparation and practices that led to a strong start and we played very well in the first half, of the game scoring four goals and playing the right way as a committee with some depth players rising to the challenge and producing some hard-working scoring. In the second half, the Huskies turned it up and took back control of the game but Kate Fawcett was incredible and made highlight real saves to keep us in the lead and eventually winning a big game."

"We expect a tough game tomorrow and we will need to adjust and find better solutions under the pressure of their forecheck. I am happy for our team. They play hard and it shows."
