COUGARS GET SWEEP OF SPARTANS

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans shooting woes continued as they fell 81-65 to the Regina Cougars Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, B.C. The loss drops the Spartans to 1-3, while the win moves the Cougars to 2-0.

TWU trailed 45-37 at the half but Regina expanded the lead to 19 points after three quarters, 69-50.

Third-year centre Connor Platz (Langley, B.C.) with a double-double of 21 points, and 11 rebounds, and third-year guard David Mutabazi (Delta, B.C.) with 12 points and five rebounds led the Spartans, while Jalen Edwards with 16 points, and Hayden Collier with 14 points, and eight rebounds led the Cougars.

QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Trevor Pridie
"I thought we had a little more poise tonight and were a little sharper. And I thought Connor had one of the best nights that he has ever had. But the timely plays went in their favour and it was a tough weekend for shot-making for us."

"The timely plays are the difference. They hit key shots and we missed them, so it allowed them to go on runs, while we couldn't get the lead. We get a chance in transition and we would turn it over and they would get a layup or a dunk. They'd get an offensive board and kick out for a three."

NOTABLE
  • Overall TWU shot 37.9 percent (25-66) from the field, 9.5 percent from the three-point line (2-21), and 59.1 percent from foul line (13-22), while Regina shot 40 percent (28-70), 35.3 percent (12-34), and 81.3 percent (13-16) respectively.
  • TWU had a 46-45 edge in rebounds.
  • The Spartans are currently 10-21 lifetime against the Cougars.
  • TWU's last win against Regina was 67-59 on February 1, 2014 in Langley, B.C.
