LANGLEY, British Columbia –Trinity Western had a significant advantage in total shots, but the Spartans were unable to find the back of the net as TWU tied the UNBC Timberwolves 0-0 in Canada West Soccer action Friday night at Chase Office Field in Langley, B.C. The draw puts TWU's record at 2-0-1, and UNBC's at 0-2-1.
TWU third-year

AS IT HAPPENED
The best opportunity in the match came in the 70
th minute when TWU second-year defender
Mario Banovic (Burnaby, B.C.) was tripped in the UNBC penalty box. The Spartans' captain third-year midfielder
Thomas Powell (Coquitlam, B.C.) took the PK, but his strike just missed the mark finding the left post. The rebound came back into play, where Powell put the ball into the back of the net. But the goal was disallowed over a rules infraction on penalty kicks.
QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Mike Shearon
"It was one of those games. UNBC is a young team that is coached well. I knew coming in that it was going to be a hard game, and hard for us to break them down and to get goals because they are a good team. They caused us some problems today, but in the end, it takes sacrifice to score goals. You have to want to get into the box. You have to want to talk. You have to want to will that ball into the net sometimes. It was a good lesson for us today and hopefully, we come out better tomorrow."
"There are a lot of things to be happy about tonight. We played with energy we slowed down their counterattacks, and we had good ball movement for the most part. We were just missing the final piece. And that is going to happen sometimes and that is part of soccer. Obviously frustrated, but at the same time there were a couple of chances that could have gone the other way and we could have been on the other side of it."
"So we take the point and tomorrow we need to come out with the same energy and guys need to step up and be counted for and not just be okay with being on the field and not be okay with "Hey I did something today". We need contributions and need more guys to step up and put the ball in the back of the net. It's going to be by committee now and that is just the way it is and we need to all step up and take care of it."
