VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans matched the UBC Thunderbirds for much of the game before falling to the No. 3 T-Birds 3-1 Friday night at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre. The loss drops the Spartans to 3-17-0-1, while the Thunderbirds move to 14-6-0-1.
Scoring for the Spartans was third-year centre Jonathan Krahan (Chilliwack, B.C.) with his seventh of the season (12:32-2nd).
Scoring for the Thunderbirds was Ben Kotylak with his first of the season (16:46-1st), Connor McDonald with his third of the season, and Jake Wright with his 11th of the season.
Third-year goalie
Raphael Audet (Rimouski, Que.) made 49 saves in the TWU loss, while Cole Schwebius made 12 saves in the T-Bird win.

The Spartans will finish the two-game series tomorrow night at 7 p.m. (PT) when they host the Thunderbirds at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, B.C. The game can be seen live on Canada West TV.

The first period saw only UBC's Kotylak find the back of the net when he put the Thunderbirds up 1-0 at 16:46. The Spartans Audet stopped 13 of the shots he faced to keep TWU in the contest with UBC outshooting TWU 14-4.
The Spartans' Krahn scored his seventh goal of the season at 12:32, assisted by
Luke Spadafora and
Daine DuBois, tying the game at one. Audet was even more impressive in the second period as he stopped 22 shots as the T-Birds outshot the Spartans 22-5.
The Thunderbirds again dominated the shots, outshooting the Spartans 16-4 in the final frame. UBC's McDonald got the game-winner at 4:46 to put the Thunderbirds up 2-1. UBC's Wright got an empty net goal at 19:05 to seal the win for the Thunderbirds.
