KELOWNA, B.C. – Trinity Western's
Jackson Van den Brink scored in the 93rd minute to lift the Spartans to a 2-2 tie with UBC Okanagan Sunday afternoon at Nonis Sports Field. Van den Brink's goal came just four minutes after
Charles Nana brought the Spartans back within one with a strike from well out.
With the draw, the Spartans finish the regular season fourth in the Pacific Division with a 5-6-4 regular season record. TWU will open the Canada West playoffs with a quarterfinal matchup next weekend in Calgary against Prairie Division champion Mount Royal.
UBCO (1-12-3) got goals from Theodore Zurowski (45th minute) and Malachi Emerson (48th minute) to put the home side ahead 2-0.
In a game that had no effect the standings or playoff seeding, the Spartans and Heat had 16 shots apiece, while UBCO had an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.
NOTABLE
• The Spartans and Heat played to a 1-1 draw in their meeting in Langley earlier this year.
• TWU finished with a 2-3-1 road record this year. The Spartans were 3-3-3 at home.
• The Spartans and their quarterfinal opponent MRU played to a scoreless draw in their only meeting this year Sept. 12 at TWU's Chase Office Field.
• TWU is 9-7-6 all-time against UBCO.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will travel to Calgary to face Mount Royal in the Canada West quarterfinals. The winner will play the winner of the quarterfinal contest between Victoria and Lethbridge.
