QUOTABLE
Peter Hay, TWU Head Coach
"Nice to see five goals for our team, as that's something that we've been focusing on and working on all week. We need to clean up, giving them some prime chances. Thankfully, we had great goaltending from Fawcett, who got the shutout. Tomorrow is another chance to take another step with more focus on the little things and good habits."

AS IT HAPPENED
The Spartans McDonald got the Spartans on the board after an evenly played opening period. Fifth-year forward Chloe Reid (Leduc, Alta.) won the offensive zone face-off straight to McDonald, who moved to the middle of the ice and beat MacEwan's Currie to put TWU up 1-0 at 17:04 of the opening period. TWU would finish the opening 20 minutes with an 11-10 edge in shots on goal.

McDonald got her second of the afternoon when fifth-year forward Jordyn Matthews (Okotoks, Alta.) stole the puck and went in on a two-on-none. Matthews fed McDonald, who went high stick side to put the Spartans up 2-0 at 6:31. Kullman got the Spartans' third goal on a TWU power play. From the right dot, Kullman sent a puck through traffic to put TWU up 3-0 at 13:51 of the second period. The Griffins ended the period with a 12-9 edge in shots.

The Spartans put the game away in the final period. TWU's Pisani scored on a deflection off a fourth-year defence Presleigh Giesbrecht (Gretna, Alta.) point shot at 1:28 to make it a four-goal lead for the Spartans. Trinity Western's forecheck resulted in the Spartans' final goal. Leier stole the puck along the left boards and was able to find an open Ledoux between the circles. Ledoux picked the top left corner to put TWU up 5-0 with 6:54 remaining in the game.
