SPARTANS COMPLETE ROAD SWEEP

KAMLOOPS – The Trinity Western Spartans completed the road weekend sweep against TRU, with a commanding 67-44 victory.

The Spartans were without Blessing Ibekwe (Coquitlam, B.C.), who sustained an injury late in Friday's game, which saw first year Moriah Jansen (Spallumcheen, B.C.) slide into the starting lineup in her absence. This didn't hinder the Spartans, as they lead for all but 45 seconds of the game, showing their next person up mentality.

Cassidy Buchanan (Aldergrove, B.C.) once again led the way for the Spartans, scoring 15 points on 6-11 shooting. Colette Van Der Hoven (Maple Ridge, B.C.) had 13 points, and Myrlaine Shelvey (Langley, B.C.) had 11 off the bench. For the Wolfpack, Olena Vasylenko had a game high 21 points, but it was not enough to compete with the Spartans balanced scoring effort.

UP NEXT

The Spartans head back home to Langley next week, taking on the UBCO Heat at home. Game time at the Langley Events Centre is set for 6 p.m. (PT) and can be seen live on Canada West TV.

QUOTABLE

TWU head coach Cheryl Jean-Paul

"The team did a great job of grinding this one out today. It wasn't easy by any means, but we had great contributions from everyone and they handled the pressure by working together regardless of who was on the floor. The creation scores were a highlight, finding the cutters and making the unselfish read. When you have 6 people with multiple assists it's a sign of a group effort to get each other great looks."

NOTABLE

  • Trinity Western delivered a commanding two-way performance, outscoring TRU 67–44 while holding them to just 34.7% shooting.

  • The Spartans owned the interior, piling up 26 points in the paint and grabbing 13 offensive rebounds to extend possessions all night.

  • Their defense set the tone early, forcing 22 TRU turnovers and turning them into 17 points the other way.

  • TWU controlled the game from the jump, leading for over 37 minutes and building the margin to as large as 23 points.

  • Depth was a major strength again, with the bench outscoring TRU's 30–3 and keeping the energy high throughout.

  • Ball movement and execution were sharp, highlighted by a 15–4 edge in assists and confident shot creation across the lineup.

  • TWU's effort on the boards — a 35–25 advantage — helped them dictate pace and maintain pressure from start to finish.
