QUOTABLE
Peter Hay, TWU Head Coach
"We looked like a team I haven't seen before. Very disappointed in our first period, as we looked very uninterested. Some may have already been thinking they were on Christmas break. We pushed back in the second and for a good chunk of the third, but not enough, and collapsed in the last 10. I believe our team is better than this. I would expect us to be better tomorrow, as there is some good character in that room."
AS IT HAPPENED
The Pandas scored twice in the opening period to take early control of the contest. Alberta's Carothers opened the scoring at 4:49 with her second of the season, followed less than two minutes later by King's power play goal at 6:30 to put the Pandas up 2-0. TWU improved as the period progressed, outshooting Alberta 8-5, but still trailed by two goals at the end of 20 minutes of play.
After a scoreless second period, TWU's Giesbrecht put the Spartans on the board at 3:17 to make it a one-goal game. The Spartans' Yakal scored on the power play at 7:02, and Boon put the Spartans up 3-2 45 seconds later. The Pandas then had a flurry of goals in just over two and a half minutes to earn the win. Yewdall got her first of the night at 12:00, followed by Soyko at 13:42. Yewdall got the insurance goal 52 seconds later at 14:35 to make the final 5-3 for the Pandas.
