Kaden Schmidt (Mississauga, Ont.) is the Spartan Male Athlete of the Week after averaging 25.5 kills in the Spartans ' two-match sweep of the Winnipeg Wesmen this past weekend in Winnipeg, Man.
On Friday, the education student finished with 24 kills, four digs, three blocks, and three service aces to help lead the Spartans to a 3-1 win over the Winnipeg Wesmen. Then on Saturday Schmidt had a career best 27 kills, to go with five digs and three blocks in the Spartans' 3-1 win to complete the weekend sweep of the Wesmen.
Schmidt's 27 kills in four sets are the third most in TWU history. Trailing only Steve Rogalsky ('09), who had 29 kills twice, most recently in a win over Manitoba on January 13, 2008.
Schmidt and the Spartans will now return home for a pair of matches with the Calgary Dinos on November 7-8. Game times are set for 7 p.m. (PT) and 5 p.m. (PT) and can be seen live on Canada West TV.
