INDEPENDENCE, Ore. – First-year
Ava Rodway led Trinity Western's women's team at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Cross Country Championships finishing 12th Friday at the Oak Knoll Golf Course.
Rodway crossed the line with a time of 22:35.9 over six kilometres to earn CCC All-Conference honours.
Hadassah Duff was the Spartans second best runner on the day, crossing the line 17th in 23:00.2.
On the men's side, second-year Spartan Yemane Mulugeta finished first and third-year Justin Kiplagat was right behind him in second, as Trinity Western put together a most impressive debut by finishing one-two at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Cross Country Championships
Competing in the CCC Championships for the first time as a team, having officially entered NAIA and the CCC this fall, Mulugeta topped the field with a time of 24:03.1 over eight kilometres. Kiplagat finished seven seconds behind his teammate in 24:10.7. Both Mulugeta and Kiplagat earned CCC All-Conference honours.
The result duplicated the duo's performance three weeks ago on the same course, when Mulugeta was first and Kiplagat was second at the Linfield George Oja Invitational. For Mulugeta's performance last time in Independence, he was named the NAIA Runner of the Week. The conference title is Mulugeta's third victory of the season, having also won the Bill Roe Invitational Sept. 27 in Bellingham, Wash.
As a team, the Spartans men finished fourth overall, while the women's team was eighth.
