SPARTANS NAMED CANADA WEST ALL-STAR

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western fourth-year guard Shemaiah Abatayo (Vancouver, B.C.) has been named a Canada West all-star, and rookie guard Colette Van der Hoven (Maple Ridge, B.C.) has been named to the all-rookie team.
 
Abatayo earned her first Canada West all-star by being named a Canada West third-team all-star. The human kinetics student led the Spartans in assists with 90 at 4.5 per game (second in the conference), scoring 13.7 points per game (12th), and 274 points (11th). Van der Hoven finished third on the Spartans in scoring with 180 points, nine per game, and assists with 45, and was second in steals with 40.
 
Abatayo and Van der Hoven led the Spartans to a 10-10 record and a fourth-place finish in the Pacific Division. TWU would win their play-in game 67-62 over Mount Royal before falling  83-57 to No. 3 Saskatchewan in the Canada West quarter-final.

About Spartan Athletics
As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 13 sports in the Canada West conference, including women's and men's soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, cross country and track & field, as well as women's rugby sevens. TWU also competes as an independent team in men's rugby and women's and men's disc golf. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 14 U SPORTS team championships and 33 Canada West team championships.
