SPARTANS BEAT WESTERN WASHINGTON TO WRAP SPRING SEASON

BELLINGHAM, Wash. Lucy Haigh scored the game-winning goal for Trinity Western, as the Spartans finished their preseason schedule with a 2-1 win over Western Washington University Tuesday at Sehome High School.

Holland Stiel opened the scoring for the Spartans before Haigh put TWU ahead 2-0. A late WWU goal in stoppage time ended Yasmine Pahal's clean sheet bid, after the Spartans netminder put together an impressive performance to keep the Vikings off the board through 90 minutes.

QUOTABLE
Graham Roxburgh, TWU Head Coach
"Overall, it was a typical spring game where we had lots of opportunities for players to get minutes. Both teams had some really good chances. Yas (Pahal) made two outstanding saves early on when we were under pressure, but then we settled down and we started to generate our own chances. We were a bit unlucky on a couple of corners as well as on some good counterattack chances where we got behind them. In the second half, I thought we generated a little bit more and were rewarded for hard work and perseverance. The highlight of the game came when Kelsey Stewart won a good tackle at the halfway line and played and incredible pastor to Lucy, who got in behind and buried it. They scored late in injury time, but overall I was really pleased with our corporate effort."
