SPARTANS SHUTOUT SEATTLE PACIFIC FALCONS TO EARN WIN

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Playing their fourth match of the week, the Trinity Western Spartans used a balanced attack and a solid defence to defeat the visiting Seattle Pacific Falcons 3-0 in a preseason cross-border friendly Saturday afternoon at Chase Office Field in Langley, B.C.

The Spartans improve to 4-3-0 in preseason play.

TWU fourth-year keeper Yamine Pahal (Surrey, B.C.) started and played the opening 45 minutes for the Spartans, with third-year Emalie Lynn (Surrey, B.C.) playing the second half to earn the shutout for the Spartans; SPU senior keeper Landry Schoennauer (San Jose, Calf.) started and played the first half for the Falcons, while rookie Celia Ramos (Temecula, Calf.) played the second half for SPU.

TWU fourth-year forward Luciana Andrews (Coquitlam, B.C.) opened the scoring in added time in the opening half. Andrews broke up the left side and, on a fine individual effort, found the far side of the net to put TWU up 1-0 going into the half-time break.

Spartan second-year defender Rhianna MacDonald (Chilliwack, B.C.) made it 2-0 for TWU when she headed in a corner kick from fourth-year forward Jenna Rizzo in the 63rd minute. TWU third-year midfielder Caitlin Cooper (Abbotsford, B.C.) broke the game open for the Spartans when she converted a pass from fifth-year forward Destiny Omari (Paris, Ont.) in the 67th minute to put TWU up 3-0.

The Spartans are now 3-3-3 lifetime against the Falcons. TWU has won their last three matchups with SPU.
