SPARTANS HIT TRIPLE DIGITS IN WIN OVER REGINA

VICTORIA – Trinity Western hit the century mark for the first time ever against Regina, as the Spartans earned a 100-61 preseason win over the Cougars to open the UVIC Invitational Thursday at CARSA.

Cassidy Buchanan led the Spartans in scoring with 30 points to go with eight assists, while Mavleen Chahal added 21 points. Moriah Jansen, with 16 points and four steals, and Myrlaine Shelvey, with 13 points and six rebounds, rounded out an impressive quartet of Spartans who hit double digits in points.

Olivia Plummer had a team-high 12 points for Regina.

TWU finished the night with 11 players playing at least eight minutes, including rookies Kiki Tupas-Singh (21 minutes), Julianna Reimer (14), Eden Hansen (14) and Kenzie Raap (8).

The last time TWU hit triple digits was Nov. 24, 2023 in a 111-58 regular season win over Brandon.

QUOTABLE
Cheryl Jean-Paul, TWU Head Coach
"Today's game was a solid next step for us, building off of last weekend's games. We're distributing the ball well, finding ways to create great shots and knocking them down. We dealt with a series of injuries early this preseason, so it's great to see Mav (Chahal) and Sav (Vander Kooi) find their form – Mav with her outside shooting and the rebounding ability that helps us get into transition from Sav. That depth is going to help us tremendously this season. The starters did their hard work early and that allowed others to get valuable playing experience against the grittiness that Regina always plays with and learning how to match that will only support our program's goals this season."

UP NEXT
The Spartans continue the UVIC Invitational with games against Saskatchewan Friday (4pm) and Calgary Saturday (3pm).
