SPARTANS KORZHYLETSKYI GETS THE HAT-TRICK IN WIN OVER REGINA

REGINA, Saskatchewan– First-year forward Danylo Korzhyletskyi (Kyiv, Ukraine) notched his first hat-trick as a Spartan to lead the Trinity Western Spartans to a 5-2 win over the Regina Cougars Friday night at the Co-operators Centre in Regina Sask. The win improves the Spartans to 4-20-3-0, while the loss drops the Cougars to 5-22-0-0.
 
Also scoring for the Spartans were second-year forward Lleyton Shearon (Langley, B.C.) with his second of the season and second-year forward Connor Farren (Cloverdale, B.C.) with his fourth of the season.
 
Scoring for the Cougars were Eric Houk with his sixth of the season and Carter Belitski with his third of the season.
 
Fourth-year goalie Raphael Audet (Rimouski, QC) was outstanding making 40 saves to earn the win for the Spartans, while Dylan Ernst and Damon Cunningham shared the back-stopping duties for the Cougars and finished with 10 and nine saves, respectively, in the Regina loss.

AS IT HAPPENED
The first period began with the Spartans on the penalty kill as Adam Leitch received a two-minute minor for tripping at 3:42. The Cougars were unable to capitalize on the power play, and the game remained scoreless until Korzhyletskyi put the Spartans ahead at 10:37, assisted by Mikhailo Simchuk and Christian Lowe. Regina responded at 13:23 when Houk, aided by Jackson Doucet and Matt Culling, tied the game 1-1. TWU regained the lead late in the period with a goal from Shearon at 19:17, assisted by Matthias Bessey and Ricards Landmanis, ending the period with TWU up 2-1.

Korzhyletskyi scored twice in the second period to extend the Spartans' lead over Regina. His second goal of the night came at 3:33 with assists from Simchuk and Lowe. He completed the hat-trick at 7:37, which was set up by Zack Whittaker and Lowe. Regina responded quickly with a goal from Carter Belitski at 8:30, narrowing the gap to 4–2.

The Spartans extended their lead early in the third period with a goal by Farren at 3:15, assisted by Tristan Serrao and McLaren Paulsen. This marked Farren's fourth goal of the season. Neither team was able to find the back of the net over the final 16 minutes as TWU took the game 5-2.

  • The Cougars outshot the Spartans 42-24.
  • TWU was 0-2 on the power play, while Regina finished 0-3.
  • This weekend's games are the final games of the 2025-26 season for the Spartans and the Cougars.
