Jacob Visser won the singles event on a playoff hole to lead the Spartans men's disc golf team Friday at the Cascadia Collegiate Invitational.
Visser won the playoff hole after finishing his round in a three-way tie for first with a score of 3 under par.
As a team, the Spartans top men's side, who are in search of a Division I berth for the College Disc Golf National Championship, sits fourth overall in the Division I event after averaging a +5 for the opening round. TWU is five strokes behind the round leaders from Oregon State.
Owen Field was TWU's second highest finisher individually, with a +3, which was good for 10th place and a round rating of 1000.
TWU's second men's team is third in the Division 2 competition through the first day, at +8, and are five strokes back of top spot. The Spartans have already secured a Division 2 spot at the national championships.
On the women's side, TWU was the only team competing, with Hannah Porter finishing at +13 (833 rating) and Verity White finishing at +21 (776).

Chris Hartmann, TWU Head Coach
"Overall, I think the guys on both our men's teams had hoped for a little better start to this event, especially with it being our final opportunity to qualify for Division 1 at nationals. However, we have two more days of competition ahead of us and our teams typically perform better when playing in the team format. It's a great learning experience to play tough courses for the first time and half or our team, this is their first time here.
"I'm really proud of how Hannah and Verity played as they drew two of the three highest rated players in the event as their cardmates. It was a great learning experience for them both and they finished with round ratings well above their player ratings. As there are no other women's teams, Hannah and Verity will be competing with other women in a community event here at the same courses tomorrow and Sunday."
