SPARTANS’ VISSER TAKES TOP SPOT AT NATIONALS

ROCK HILL, South Carolina – Trinity Western fourth-year Jacob Visser (St. Catharines, Ont.) earned the program's first national title by taking top spot in the DII division at the Collegiate Disc Golf National Championship in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Visser won the Div II Singles (192 players) by three strokes with the fourth-highest rated round across all Divisions.  His round rating of 1045 is the highest rating of his career and was done on a very technical course.

Rounding out the Spartans in Div II play were third-year Owen Field (Comox, B.C.) (70th), second-year Everett Dabbagh (Edmonton, Alta.) (129th), and first-year Mattias Huberts (Abbotsford, B.C.) (168th). Together with Visser, they go into team play in 10th place at +8. Which is six strokes behind NC State, who lead after the opening round at +2.

In DIII play, the Spartans team of fourth-year Zach Ruptash (Grande Prairie, Alta.), first-year Bailey Neufeld (Abbotsford, B.C.), second-year Ben Brandsma (Abbotsford, B.C.), and first-year Ayden Tweedle (Vancouver, B.C.) played their opening round of team play and sit in 14th place. The group will play their singles rounds tomorrow.

QUOTABLE
Chris Hartman – TWU head coach
"It was an amazing performance for Jacob, which required him to use his full set of skills wisely. The Camp Canaan course is a difficult course through dense woods on an Island in the middle of the Catawba River. It's a course where some fairways slope off into the River and where, on one spectacular hole, you throw out over the river and back to the island some 350 to 400 feet later."

UP NEXT
The Spartans will now continue team play for the next three day's in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
