LANGLEY, British Columbia – In this week's U SPORTS Top 10 rankings, the Spartans women's soccer team (3-1-2) remain the only Trinity Western team in the U SPORTS rankings, dropping one spot to No. 9 after a four-point weekend in Canada West Conference play. Other Canada West teams in the Top 10 rankings are the UBC Thunderbirds (6-0-0) at No. 1, the Calgary Dinos (6-0-0) at No. 4, and the Mount Royal Cougars (6-0-0) at No. 8.
In men's rugby, the Spartans (0-2) dropped to No. 7 in the Canadian university men's rugby rankings after a 45-24 home loss to the No. 4 Victoria Vikes. UBC is the top western team in the No. 2 spot.
In women's soccer last weekend, the Spartans battled the Victoria Vikes to a scoreless 0-0 draw on Friday night at Chase Office Field in Langley, B.C. Then on Saturday, TWU defeated the UNBC Timberwolves 1-0 at home to extend their shutout streak to 203 minutes. The Spartans have allowed only four goals in their six matches.
The Spartans women's soccer team will head west for two road matches next weekend. TWU will visit the UBC Okanagan Heat Friday, September 25 at 5 p.m. (PT) in Kelowna, B.C., before taking on the UBC Thunderbirds Saturday, September 26 at 6 p.m. (PT) in Vancouver. Both matches will air live on Canada West TV.
After a week off, the No. 7 Spartans men's rugby team will continue Coastal Cup action on Friday, October 2, when they host the No. 2 UBC Thunderbirds. The match at The Stadium at the LEC is set for 7 p.m. (PT) and will be shown live on the CBC Sports YouTube channel. Trinity Western is hosting the McTavish Cup men's rugby national championship November 17-21. The Spartans have an automatic berth to the championship, which will be played at The Stadium at the Langley Events Centre.
