Mike Shearon took over as the Spartans men’s soccer head coach in 2016 after serving as the team’s associate head coach for the previous six seasons.
In his four years as the team's head coach, Shearon has compiled an overall record of 43-29-10, while leading the Spartans to the Canada West Final Four three times. In 2018, Shearon guided TWU back to the U SPORTS Championship for the first time since 2009, with the Spartans earning a fourth-place finish at the national tournament.
Prior to 2010, when he was promoted to associate head coach, Shearon was an assistant coach with the Spartans from 1998-2002 and 2004-2009. During that stretch, he helped the Spartans to three U SPORTS medals (silver in 2006 and 2008 and bronze in 2005), three Canada West championships (2005, 2006 and 2007) and three Canada West league titles (2003, 2004 and 2007). While working as the associate head coach, Shearon was also responsible for team administration and for building culture and mindset within the team both on and off the field.
Shearon, who hails from Macedonia, Ohio and currently resides in Langley, B.C. has an extensive coaching resume. He has over 15 years of experience in coaching youth soccer camps and was the director of Athletes in Action Soccer Camps from 1998-2003. At the university and club level, Shearon coached the Kopion FC Youth team from 1995-1997, was the JV and scouting coach with Wheaton College in 1996, and was also the assistant coach at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Mich. in 1997. He was the head coach of the Fraser Valley Action U21 team in 2001 and 2005 and the head coach of the Fraser Valley Action PCSL team in 2007.
He has also coached a number teams on international tours. In 2000, he took an AIA men's team to Ireland, while in 2004 he took a men's team to Albania and a women's team to Ireland and in 2008 he took a men's team to South Africa.
In addition to his work with the Spartans, Shearon works with AIA, where he directs the Integration of Faith and Sport Division and works as a chaplain to professional sports teams.
Shearon, who graduated from Wheaton College in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science degree, played club soccer with Cleveland Internationals and played university soccer for the Wheaton College Thunder (Wheaton, IL) from 1992-95, where he was named All-CCIW (College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) in 1994 and 1995. He also holds an Advanced National Coaching Diploma from the NSCAA.
