LANGLEY, British Columbia –Trinity Western fourth-year forward Myrlaine Shelvey (Langley, B.C.) is the Spartan Female Athlete of the Week after helping lead the Spartans to a weekend sweep with wins over the Fraser Valley Cascades and the UBC Okanagan Heat.

In Friday’s 58-47 win over the Cascades in Abbotsford, B.C. the Education student had 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Then in Saturday’s win over the Heat in Kelowna, B.C. Shelvey had 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots.

The Spartans will now finish no worse than second in the Pacific Division. TWU could take top spot if the first place UBC Thunderbirds drop both games to the third place Victoria Vikes in Victoria on Friday and Saturday.

Shelvey and the rest of the Spartans will have a week off before hosting the Canada West quarterfinals and play-in games on February 13-14 at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, B.C. TWU’s opponent will be the winner of the play-in game, with those teams yet to be determined. Both games will be streamed live on Canada West TV.
