DELTA, B.C. – Trinity Western dropped a 6-3 decision against the Delta Hockey Academy in what was the Spartans second game in 16 hours Saturday afternoon at Planet Ice Delta.
AS IT HAPPENED
Less than 24 hours after earning a 3-0 win over RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna, the Spartans found themselves down 3-0 midway through the second period against Delta and never fully recovered. A pair of quick TWU goals closed the gap, but the home side re-established its two-goal lead shortly thereafter and the Spartans comeback bid was thwarted.
Chloe Reid (Leduc, Alta.),
Neisha Germann (Lloydminster, Alta.) and
Brooklyn Rublee (Kindersley, Sask.) scored for the Spartans.
NEED TO KNOW
• Reid's goal is her team-leading third of the season, while both Germann and Rublee tallied their first goals in a Spartans uniform.
• TWU is now 1-2-0 in its first three games of an exhibition series against a variety of teams as part of the CSSHL (Canadian Sport School Hockey League) Return to Play.
• The Spartans were initially supposed to play this season as a member of the Canada West conference, before the 2020-21 season was cancelled following recommendations by the CW Board of Directors based on information provided by the CW COVID-19 task force.
QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Jean Laforest
"Special teams proved to be largely the difference today. Delta's power play was one of their strengths and they were able to capitalize on their opportunities. We'll go back to practice now and will be working on our penalty killing and defence as we prepare to play RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna again next Saturday."
