DELTA, B.C. – Trinity Western got goals from
Neisha Germann (Lloydminster, Alt.) and
Desi Wiens (Abbotsford, B.C.), but the Spartans lost 5-2 against the Delta Hockey Academy Saturday afternoon at Planet Ice Delta.
AS IT HAPPENED
After Delta opened the scoring early in the first period, Germann rifled home a shot up top off a quick wraparound to even the score just before the end of the opening frame. However, the second period belonged to Delta, with the Academy side scoring three goals to take a 4-1 edge into the third period. Wiens scored off a slapper from the point on a Spartans power play to get TWU within two goals, but a late goal from Delta thwarted any ideas of a comeback bid for the Langley-based side.
NEED TO KNOW
- TWU is now 2-3-0 in its first five games of an exhibition series against a variety of teams as part of the CSSHL (Canadian Sport School Hockey League) Return to Play.
- TWU is 0-2 against Delta, having lost 6-3 on Oct. 24.
- The Spartans were initially supposed to play this season as a member of the Canada West conference, before the 2020-21 season was cancelled following recommendations by the CW Board of Directors based on information provided by the CW COVID-19 task force.
QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Jean Laforest
"We had a good effort this afternoon. Discipline was an issue, which resulted in four DHA power play goals. We need to ensure we execute our penalty kill systems with intensity and attack the play at appropriate times. On special teams, DHA was dominant in this game. At five-on-five, we each scored once. We got another strong game from
Neisha Germann and we also had a solid outing by
Desi Wiens. Special mention to
Lainie Nichols (Winnipeg) and
McKenzie Mayo (Saskatoon), who played solid defence."
