SPOKANE, Wash. – In the Spartans first meet of the 2024 indoor track and field season, Erica Udoh (Winnipeg), who is her second year of eligibility but first year with TWU, made a statement in her first ever meet as a Spartan, shattering TWU's weight throw record with a mark of 13.63m at the Spokane Indoor Challenge at The Podium. Udoh bettered the previous mark of 11.81m, which was set by Aleena Zibin in 2002-23. 

On the men's side, pole vaulting brothers Jaime Eduardo Martin Huerta (Santiago, Chile) and Nicolas Martin Huerta (Santiago, Chile) both earned a ticket to the U SPORTS Championship by clearing 4.90m Saturday to earn the national qualifying standard.

"Today was marked by a plethora of personal best performances from the team. It was great to see Ed and Nico earn standard for nationals. We had a lot of good hurdle performances today. Daniel Toneguzzi (Victoria) had really impressive 3000m, shaving off 12 seconds from his personal best. Erica smashed our school record in the weight throw. Sheleena Wiley (Langley, B.C.) dusted off her 60m self and ran some blistering times for her. Nikita Bradshaw (Pickering, Ont.) had a great day and PBd in her high jump. Our sprinters had a great day and a lot of our JV athletes had good days. All in all, it was a good day. I'm really encouraged by the start of our season."
