SPARTANS FALL ON THE SECOND NIGHT TO UBC OKANAGAN HEAT

KELOWNA, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans could not make it two straight wins as they fell 73-58 to the UBC Okanagan Heat Saturday afternoon at the UBC Okanagan Gym in Kelowna, B.C. The loss drops the Spartans to 2-4 in conference play, while the win improves the Heat to 3-3.

UBC Okanagan made it a double-digit lead heading into the final quarter with a 20-13 margin to lead 59-44 with 10 minutes remaining. TWU was unable to get close in the final quarter as the Heat earned the 15-point win.

Fourth-year guard Shemaiah Abatayo (Vancouver, B.C.) with 25 points, two rebounds, and two assists, and second-year centre Blessing Ibekwe (Coquitlam, B.C.) with nine points, and three rebounds led the Spartans. Tennyson McCarthy with 17 points, four rebounds, two blocks, and three assists, and Lauren Foullong with 12 points, five rebounds, and two assists led the Heat.

QUOTABLE
TWU head coach Cheryl Jean-Paul
"Tonight was another tough Saturday game for us. Being able to make the adjustments for what needs to happen on offense and defense was a struggle in the first and third quarters. Being able to play two complete games back-to-back at this level isn't something that is learned overnight so it's still something we will keep working on. But for us to leave this weekend with a split is a really important step for us and we can't overlook how hard we worked to get the Friday's game."
