SPARTANS FALL IN HARD-FOUGHT CONTEST WITH MOUNT ROYAL

Box Score LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western's women's hockey team lost 2-1 against Mount Royal Saturday afternoon at the Langley Events Centre.

Kelsey Ledoux was TWU's lone goal-scorer, with Kyra McDonald and Jordyn Matthews earning helpers.

MRU's Lyndsey Janes scored twice to help lead her team to a weekend sweep, with the Cougars having won 3-2 Friday night.

TWU's Mable Maltais made 29 saves, while MRU's Katherine Holan stopped 23 of the 24 shots she faced.

The loss drops TWU to 7-7, while the win improves MRU to 10-2.

Both teams had one power play each but neither were able to convert.

MRU jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 13:52 of the first period when Janes found the back of the net. Janes doubled the visitors' lead midway through the second period with her second goal of the afternoon and fifth of the season.

However less than two minutes later, Ledoux cut the Cougars lead in half, as she whipped a point shot over the right shoulder and past the blocker of MRU's Katherine Holan.

The Spartans pushed back in the third period but were unable to find the back of the net.

QUOTABLE
Peter Hay, TWU Head Coach
"I thought our team gave everything we could today. We battled hard today with very injured-plagued roster. We had a lot of players step up and make the game competitive. Unfortunately we didn't score on our chances against a very good team."

NEXT UP
The Spartans host Calgary Nov. 29-30 at the Langley Events Centre. Both games start at 1 p.m. (PT).

NOTABLE
