EDMONTON – Trinity Western's
Sheleena Wiley (Langley, B.C.) had a huge final jump to capture long jump bronze with a mark of 6.01m at the Canada West Championships Friday at the Universiade Pavilion. Wiley was one of four Spartans to medal on the day, with Ana Fonseca (Mexicali, Mexico) taking silver in pole vault and
Constance Nankivell (Edinburgh, Scotland) winning bronze in the 3000m, while on the men's side Oke Okumo (Calgary) took gold in long jump.
Fonseca took silver in pole vault for the third year in a row at the Canada West Championships after clearing 3.50m. Competing in her first CW Championships,
Constance Nankivell (Edinburgh, Scotland) grabbed bronze in the 3000m with a time of 10:00.31.
Okumo captured his first-ever Canada West gold medal with in long jump with a mark of 7.26m. He came within two centimetres of the Spartans record of 7.28m, which is held by alum James Linde (Feb. 21, 2014). The gold medal sees Okumo improves on the long jump silver medal he won at last year's Canada West Championships. Okumo now has three conference medals, having nabbed a bronze medal in triple jump in 2022.
In the heptathlon, rookie Dajean Clarke (Langley, B.C.) sits in third place through Day 1 after earning personal bests in all four events Friday.
