EDMONTON – Trinity Western's Nicolas Martin Huerta (Santiago, Chile) captured Canada West gold in pole vault and was named the CW Male Rookie of the Year after clearing a personal best 5.02m at the conference championships Saturday at the Universiade Pavilion.
Martin Huerta led the Spartans podium sweep in men's pole vault, with brother Jaime Eduardo Martin Huerta (Santiago, Chile) taking silver (4.40m) and Ben Zubaly (Rathdrum, Idaho) nabbing bronze (4.40m). TWU's dominance in men's pole vault continued beyond the podium with Josh Carsience (Abbotsford, B.C.) finishing fourth (4.40m).
