QUOTABLE
TWU head coach Mike Shearon
"Happy with the victory and happy for Xander to get the game winner. Charles had a goal and two assists today which was brilliant for him. Joey with a goal and assists was great as well. There were a lot of good moments. There were also a number of moments you just shake your head at. Every game we need to get better. Struggle and emerge. Lots of credit to UNBC today and their willingness to compete until the end. We go again tomorrow."
AS IT HAPPENED
The Timberwolves' Lewis opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a quick start. The Spartans found their game and tied the match at 1-1 on a goal by Seo in the 14th minute. Just over three minutes later TWU's Low got his fourth of the season to give TWU a 2-1 lead in the 17th minute. The Spartans Nana made it a two-goal advantage in the 39th minute, as TWU went into the half with a 3-1 lead.
The Spartans controlled much of the play in the early part of the second half, but the Timberwolves Tate was a difference maker in the later part of the half. Tate scored in the 73rd minute to make it a one goal lead game, 3-2. Four minutes later in the 77th minute, Tate was fouled in the box and UNBC's Lewis converted the penalty to tie the game 3-3 with 13th minutes remaining.
The match looked like it would end in a draw, but TWU fourth-year midfielder
Francis Powell (Coquitlam, B.C.) was able to get the ball in the deep corner and send a cross to the centre of the UNBC six-yard box. Roxburgh went high to head the ball into the back of the Timberwolves net and give the Spartans the one goal, 4-3, win.
