QUOTABLE
Adam Schriemer, TWU Head Coach
"Love or offensive distribution and efficiency, again, the fact that we set our middles 27 times in three sets and hit just over 600 total efficiency, that's amazing. ?And then, obviously, the offensive performance again from Kaden was great, super efficient, and sneaky good today. It was just very steady, which was good to see. And I'm really happy with Wilhelm. It's a very unique role for him in his first Canada West start. really impressive to see what he did. And Corey going 10 kills at 909 was amazing. I think Corey just keeps establishing himself as the top middle blocker in the country, and he's doing it in every phase, with his blocking and his spiking, and then he's starting to serve a lot better, too, which is making his performance much more complete. ?Really fun to watch."
AS IT HAPPENED
The Spartans quickly took control of the opening set, and after a second-year setter
Willem Van Huizen (Langley, B.C.) kill, led the Dinos 16-10. Calgary wasn't able to close ground as TWU took the opening set 25-16. The Spartans hit at .389 (10-3-18) in the opening set, while the Dinos hit at .136 (7-4-22).
The second set was evenly played through the first three quarters of the set. Then, with TWU up by one point, 19-18, the Spartans took over. TWU went on a 6-2 run to close out the set 25-20 to take a 2-0 set lead. The Spartans hit at .414 (17-5-29), while the Dinos hit at .364 (10-2-22).
The final set saw the Spartans look to gain separation, but the Dinos kept clawing back into it. TWU built a six-point, 18-12, lead after a Schmidt kill, but the Dinos battled back. After a service ace by Cole Czepuryk, Calgary only trailed by two points, 20-18. But it was as close as the Dinos would get. The two teams traded points until a Dinos service error gave the Spartans the set 25-21.
