FONSECA WINS POLE VAULT SILVER AT CW CHAMPIONSHIPS

REGINA – Trinity Western collected seven medals as an entire team on Day 1 of the Canada West Championships, with TWU's women's performance highlighted by the Spartans taking two of three spots on the pole vault podium, with Ana Fonseca winning silver and Sophia Bryenton earning bronze Friday at the City of Regina Fieldhouse.

Fonseca was second overall with a vault of 3.56m while first-year Sophia Bryenton took third place with a vault of 3.46m.

On the men's side, TWU's day was highlighted by a gold medal from Danny Earles in the 300m. Earles clocked a time of 34.05 in the final to capture first place and put TWU back on top of the Canada West men's 300m podium for the first time since Nathan George nabbed top spot in 2014.

First-year Yemane Mulugeta took silver in the 3000m with a time of 8:22.13, while Oke Okumo grabbed long jump silver with a mark of 7.17m. In the pole vault pit, brothers Jaime Eduardo Martin Huerta and Sebastian Martin Huerta tied for the silver medal with vaults of 4.20m.
