SPARTANS BATTLE FOR WIN

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Fifth-year forward Charles Nana (Calgary, Alta.) scored the lone goal for the Spartans to lead Trinity Western to a 1-0 victory over the UNBC Timberwolves Saturday night at Chase Office Field in Langley, B.C. The win is TWU's first of the season, improving the Spartans to 1-3-0. Meanwhile, the loss is the first of the season for UNBC, dropping the Timberwolves to 3-1-0.

TWU fifth-year keeper Yeshua Silwamba (Maple Ridge, BC) made two saves for his first win of the season. UNBC's Logan Pierce made three saves in the Timberwolves' loss.

UP NEXT
TWU will now host the UBC Okanagan Heat and the Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Friday, September 5, and Saturday, September 6 at Chase Office Field. Both games have a 7:15 p.m. (PT) kickoff and can be seen live on Canadawest.tv.

QUOTABLE
Mike Shearon, TWU Head Coach
"Tonight was a good night, with great work rate from everyone. And a good defensive performance. We needed to solidify that from last night, and I thought we did. Once again, we as a group need to continue to grow and continue to get closer to the team that we're capable of being. ?And tonight we took a step, and hopefully it's a good week of training this week, and we can continue to take some steps through the rest of the season."

AS IT HAPPENED
Nana's goal came in the 43rd minute when he was sent in on a breakaway, where UNBC's Pierce fouled him. As a result, the Spartans were awarded a penalty kick. Nana took the penalty and put the Spartans up 1-0 at the half.

The second half was mostly the Spartans preventing the Timberwolves from solid opportunities, as UNBC only managed one shot in the final 45. TWU was unfortunate not to get an insurance goal as they put seven shots towards the UNBC net in the second half, with Pierce making two saves. To make the final 1-0 for the Spartans.
